The Million Trees LA initiative intends to chart a course for sustainable growth through planting and stewardship of trees. This study measures LA's existing tree canopy cover (TCC), determines if space exists for 1 million additional trees, and estimates future benefits from the planting. Benefits were forecast for planting of 1 million trees between 2006 and 2010, and their growth and mortality were projected until 2040. LA's existing TCC was 21%. There is potential to add 2.5 million additional trees to the existing population of 10.8 million, but only 1.3 million of the potential tree site

Temperate broadleaved trees grow in very different ecosystems in the northern and southern hemispheres, but are also found extensively in many tropical and subtropical mountain areas. A wide range of non-wood products are derived from temperate broadleaved trees, and their description is organized in this volume according to the part of the tree from which they are obtained (whole tree, foliage, flowers, etc.). This information is presented in order to raise awareness on, and assist in identifying, opportunities for the management and production of non-wood products from temperate broadleaved

Insect pests and diseases routinely affect the health of trees, and major outbreaks can have catastrophic environmental and economic impacts. The effective management of all tree health problems depends on their early detection. This guide provides 140 photographs of symptoms from more than 50 tree species to be used as a basis for demonstrating the effects of pest (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) influences on trees. It is not an identification guide to insects pests and diseases of trees, but aims to help people make visual assessments of tree health problems and to provide a preliminary di

Hemlock dwarf mistletoe (HDM) (żArceuthobium tsugenseż) is a small, inconspicuous parasite that has significant effects on tree growth and stand structure in coastal forest ecosystems of west. N. Amer. Previous clearcut harvesting of areas that removed all infected trees, and forestry practices that established even-aged stands of trees effectively prevented HDM impacts. However, current forest practices that restrict clearcut harvesting to small openings, and retain live trees to preserve attributes of old-growth forests create conditions that are favorable for enhanced seed production by H
